If you have a frameless pivot or swing shower door installed, the installer will leave clearance room between the floor and the very bottom of the door so it can swing open and closed while not scraping the tile. Water sweeps are used to keep water from leaking out of that clearance space.

In the event of frameless shower doors, the installers attach a water sweep to an aluminum U-channel rail or a clear rail that easily connects to the door’s bottom edge. The vinyl sweep or flexible sweep will hang from the rail to seal the clearance gap of the shower door.

When it comes to frameless shower doors that receive water spray, the water sweep should be combined with a drip rail underneath the shower door. The drip rail is connected to the U-channel’s top inner area, so water is deflected from rolling off the inside of the shower door.

Not all shower doors need a shower sweep, but many frameless shower doors do. If you are unsure that your shower door needs a shower sweep, call an experienced frameless shower installer.
